AM I ABLE TO TAKE UP THE SUTD PHD PROGRAMME ON A PART-TIME BASIS?

Unfortunately, we are currently only accepting full-time PhD candidates.

DO I HAVE TO SERVE A BOND FOR TAKING UP A SCHOLARSHIP/ FELLOWSHIP?

Students are not required to serve a bond if they take up either the SUTD President’s Graduate Fellowship (PhD) or the SUTD PhD Fellowship.

External scholarships may carry their own bond; please click on the respective scholarship links to find out more about each scholarship’s respective terms and conditions.

IS IT NECESSARY TO SUBMIT GRE AND TOEFL/IELTS SCORES?

A GRE score is not required for admission, but it is recommended you do so as it will aid your application. Applicants are also required to submit TOEFL/IELTS scores if their Bachelor’s degree medium of instruction is not in English.
 
Applicants who do not have their GRE and/or TOEFL/IELTS scores when applying may submit the scores later, up until two weeks after the programme application deadline.

WHAT IS THE EXPECTED RESIDENCY PERIOD?

The expected residency period is 3 to 5 years. PhD students typically take 4 years to graduate.

WHEN WILL I KNOW THE OUTCOME OF MY APPLICATION?

Applicants will be informed on the outcome of their application by the end of June of the year for the September intake and by the end of October for the January intake.
