Strong Demand and Increase in Starting Salaries for SUTD Fresh Graduates Despite Uncertain Economy

The Graduate Employment Survey (GES), as at February 2021, showed a strong demand for SUTD graduates with an overall employment rate of 95.9%3 despite the uncertain economic situation.

Among those who are full-time permanently employed, 94.4% (an increase from 92.6% in 2019) received at least one job offer, while 50.3% received multiple job offers. 26.1% received return job offers arising from their internships.

The mean gross monthly salary among SUTD’s fresh graduates employed in full-time permanent employment increased to $4,369 in 2020, compared to $4,235 in 2019; and the median gross monthly salary remain competitive at $4,100 in 2020, compared to $4,072 in 2019.

372 fresh graduates and 62 follow-up graduates8 from SUTD were surveyed in February 2021 and the overall response rate obtained were 81.2% and 74.2% respectively.

3. Employment rates refer to the number of graduates employed as a proportion of graduates in the labour force (i.e. those who were working, or not working but actively looking and available for work) as at 19 February 2021 (i.e. approximately six months after completing their final examinations).

4. Employment refers to graduates working on a full-time permanent, part-time, temporary or freelance basis.

5. Full-time permanent employment refers to employment of at least 35 hours a week and where the employment is not temporary. It includes those on contracts of one year or more.

6. Basic monthly salary pertains only to full-time permanently employed graduates. It comprises basic pay before deduction of the employee’s CPF contributions and personal income tax. Employer’s CPF contributions, bonuses, stock options, overtime payments, commissions, fixed allowances, other regular cash payments, lump sum payments, and payments-in-kind are excluded.

8. Data on Architecture and Sustainable Design graduates are obtained from a follow-up survey on 2017 Architecture and Sustainable Design graduates after they have completed their practical training.
