Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART)
SMART, MIT's first such research unit outside of Cambridge, MA, serves as an intellectual hub, allowing faculty, researchers and graduate students from MIT to collaborate with their academic and industrial counterparts from Singapore and the region in exciting new areas of science and technology. SMART focuses on the following five topics: infectious diseases, environmental sensing and modeling, biosystems and micromechanics, future urban mobility, and low-energy electronic systems. In addition, SMART has an Innovation Centre to provide funding for faculty and students to further develop their ideas with an eye towards the marketplace. Through the Innovatioin Centre's unique process, MIT faculty founded companies have achieved valuation of over USD 1 Billion.
