With the ageing population in Singapore and many other countries, you can contribute to the advancement of healthcare innovation in many areas, from providing technology-enabled solutions that address a wide range of pressing healthcare challenges, to optimising hospital infrastructure and new bio-medical products and systems. SUTD is collaborating with Changi General Hospital and other partner universities to offer research projects in areas such as technology-enabled “smart” healthcare and public health policy.
With an estimated 75% of the global population living in cities and megacities by 2050, associated urban challenges will be the leading focus of governments, universities, global think tanks and non-profit organisations. Solutions will have to be explored in the areas of housing, traffic, connectivity, water supply, flooding, energy and climate change. You can draw upon the multi-disciplinary expertise across SUTD’s engineering and architecture pillars, humanities, arts and social sciences (HASS) cluster, as well as the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities to develop solutions that address these concerns. SUTD has partnered with various global universities, industry consultants and government agencies to create smart city solutions during curricula and through research such as urban science and designing for density and data driven design solutions for Asian cities.
Solutions need to be developed to address the estimated doubling of Asia Pacific air traffic volume within the next 20 years. Airports, airlines, air traffic control and engineering services will need to innovate significantly to keep up with growth. Airports are one of the most complex systems to study and skills developed in the process can be applied to other engineering systems such as financial systems, supply chains and other urban systems. Drawing on our partnerships with major airlines and aviation companies, you can look forward to developing translatable skill sets and contributing to research in areas such as aviation data analytics and advanced simulation in air traffic amongst others.
AI will be one of Singapore’s key enablers to achieve the vision of a Smart Nation and addressing the Fourth Industrial Revolution. SUTD’s integrated multi-disciplinary programme adopts a holistic approach towards the education, research and industry implementation of artificial intelligence, in order to develop transformative capabilities for the long term. Beyond existing internships and research projects with industrial partners, you can also look forward to participating in local and international competitions in artificial intelligence.
