Celebrating Assistant Professor Zehui Xiong’s Distinguished Achievements: IEEE ComSoc Researcher and Paper Award

We are thrilled to announce that Assistant Professor Zehui Xiong has been honoured with the prestigious IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc) Asia Pacific (AP) Outstanding Researcher Award. This accolade is awarded to the best researchers from the Asia-Pacific region who have made significant advancements in the field of communications technology. Professor Zehui’s pioneering work in edge networks and intelligence exemplifies the groundbreaking research recognized by this award, positioning him among the leaders in the global communications community.

Further cementing his reputation, Professor Zehui has also received the IEEE ComSoc AP Outstanding Paper Award for his seminal paper titled “Deep Reinforcement Learning Based Intelligent Reflecting Surface for Secure Wireless Communications,” published in IEEE Transactions on Wireless Communications in 2021. This paper is distinguished by its innovative approach to integrating deep reinforcement learning with intelligent reflecting surfaces to enhance security in wireless communications. The research led by Professor Zehui as the corresponding author addresses critical vulnerabilities in wireless networks, offering robust solutions that have set new benchmarks for the industry.

It is also noteworthy that earlier this year, before receiving the above two awards, Professor Zehui was honoured with the IEEE ComSoc Outstanding Paper Award for another significant contribution. This accolade was for his co-authored paper, “Deep Anomaly Detection for Time-Series Data in Industrial IoT: A Communication-Efficient On-Device Federated Learning Approach,” published in the IEEE Internet of Things Journal in 2021. This paper pioneers advanced federated edge learning techniques for anomaly detection in industrial IoT environments, markedly improving communication efficiency and processing capabilities within complex networks.

These prestigious awards not only underscore Professor Zehui’s exceptional contributions to the field of communications but also demonstrate a commitment to advancing research that pushes the boundaries of technology and knowledge.
