The Galleria Borghese is a villa functioning as an art gallery primarily showcasing the works of Gian Lorenzo Bernini. I placed an addition on the left of the Villa to counterbalance an existing school located on the right. The form is derived from the sinusoidal curve used in the wavy facade of Borromini’s San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane church. I attempted to carry forward this dynamism into the building. I also added various water features including a layered square pool and a water oculus.
The second floor serves as the gallery to display additional works of Bernini found in other museums. I divided the floor into the outer and inner parts. The inner section surrounds the central stairwell and has a raised platform from which visitors can view the sculptures from a higher elevation. The outer section surrounds the inner section with frosted glass letting in external light.
