Biography
Rita Soh graduated with honours from the National University of Singapore in 1987.
In 2011, she obtained her Master of Science (Sustainable Building Design) from University of Nottingham (UK). This is to reinforce her strong belief in the need to have all buildings designed sustainably, with good environmental comforts for its occupants as well as to use our natural resources responsibly.
Rita has been involved in the design and project management of healthcare, hospitality, residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and infra-structure projects, both local and overseas. She is presently Director-in-charge of the Department of Emergency Medicine Building @ SGH, 3 new MRT stations @ LTA’s Circle Line, Kallang Polyclinc /Long-term care facility, Restoration of Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary & the Blessed Sacrament Church. Her recent completed works included the Remodeling works to existing Main Building @ NUH, The Integrated Building @ CGH, Medical Centre @ CGH, AALTO, a prestigious high-rise condominium, Conservation of 150years Monument, St Peter & Paul Church @ Queen’s Street.
She is a Board member at Sentosa Development Corporation and a member on the BCA Productivity Gateway Advisory Panel as well as a member of the Mandai Safari Park Holdings’ Development Committee. She sits as member in NUS, School of Design & Environment Advisory Committee.
Regionally, she is President, Architects Regional Council Asia (ARCASIA) (2019-21) and had served over the years as Convenor, Fellowship (2017-18); Chairman, Committee for Social Responsibility (2015-16); Deputy Chairman, Zone B (2008-10) as well as Founding Chairman for Professional Practice Committee (2004-08).
Rita was President, Board of Architects Singapore for 6 years (2010-2015) and a Nominated Member of Parliament (12th Session)(2014-2015). She was also President of the Singapore Institute of Architects from 2004-2007 and was instrumental in establishing a Blueprint for the architectural profession in its pursuit of Architectural Excellence as well as a Pro-Enterprise approach in architecture.
To champion Asian Architecture, Rita with Getz, launched the bi-annual SIAGetz Architecture Prize for Emergent Architecture in Asia in 2005.
She had also served as the Chairman for the 2012 Singapore President’s Design Award Jury panel and member for the Inaugural President’s Design of the Year and Designer of the Year in 2006 and subsequently in 2007 & as Chairman in 2010.
