Part of the ModularMaster in Cybersecurity programme

 

This is an introductory graduate‐level course in computer networking. The course covers core concepts and major design and implementation techniques for large‐scale computer networks at the application, transport, network:

  1. Introduction to Computer networks (Nuts and bolts description, Network edge, core, delay, loss, throughput, networking protocols)
  2. Application layer (Web, HTTP, FTP, Email, Internet, DNS, P2P, Socket programming)
  3. Transport layer (UDP, TCP)
  4. Network layer (IP, routing algorithms, Broadcast, multicast)

This course can be taken as a module on its own or as part of the Graduate Certificate in Systems and Networking Security stack and participants will earn 12 subject credits which can also be used towards completing the ModularMaster in Cybersecurity.

Prerequisites

  • O-Level Mathematics
  • Generic Skills Competency (GSC) for Digital Literacy at Intermediate Level: Use available software features to create and edit documents, customise templates and reports and evaluate online information.
  • Programming knowledge in Python will be particularly useful
