Chong Keng Hua

Dr Chong Keng Hua holds a PhD in Architecture. He is the Principal Investigator of Social Urban Research Groupe (SURGe) and Co-Lead of Opportunity Lab (O-Lab) at SUTD. He is also the founding partner of COLOURS: Collectively Ours LLP, an award-winning design consultancy specialising in collaborative public place design. He was appointed as a member of Jurong Lake District (JLD) Steering Committee in 2015-2017, advising the planning of Singapore’s second CBD; and curator for Singapore Pavilion at the Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition 2018.

 

Dr Chong has been a Visiting Faculty at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Zhejiang University, and was invited to lecture by many universities including University of Tokyo, Tongji University, RMIT University, Royal College of Art, and CENTRO University. His research focuses on social architecture, particularly in the areas of ageing, liveable public place and data-driven collaborative design. He was the Principle Investigator of several impactful projects, including “Creative Ageing Cities” supported by SUTD-MIT International Design Centre, and “Second Beginnings” supported by Lien Foundation, raising the urgency of rethinking eldercare landscape in Asia and proposing new architectural typologies for future senior living. He is currently the Programme Lead of the “New Urban Kampung” Research Programme, which aims to foster stronger communities through data analytics, behavioural studies, simulation platform, and urban prototyping.
