  • Write SQL statements for creating, modifying, and retrieving data from databases.
  • Implement a simple database-driven application by applying the concepts of database management.
  • Understand healthcare case studies shared by SingHealth faculty members to gain insights into real-world scenarios.
  • Utilise curated public healthcare datasets to perform hands-on activities and assignments, fostering practical experience and understanding of the subject matter.
Day 1 – Introduction of Database Management System
  • Types and components of IT infrastructure
  • Applications of database management system
  • Phases of database designing (conceptual, logical, physical)
  • Database normalisation
  • Evolution of data ecosystem in healthcare
  • Example of data governance in healthcare
Day 2 – Basic Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Creating database with Data Definition Language
  • Modifying database with Data Manipulation Language
  • Type of SQL Constraints
Day 3 – Advanced Structured Query Language (SQL)
  •  Retrieving data from single table with Data Query Language
  •  Using functions related text and data searches
  •  Retrieving data from multiple table with Data Query Language
  • Types of join operators: Inner, Full Outer, Left Outer, Right Outer joins
  • Creating Views, Triggers, Functions
Day 4 – Practical application of database
  • Case study in healthcare
  • Hands-on data exploration for inpatient and outpatient domains
Day 5 – Consultation/ Project presentation

Each group of participants will present the progress of their projects and have the opportunity to ask questions and clarify any doubts pertaining to their projects.
