Lianhe Zaobao, 27 Aug 2018, Study: Despite SingHealth data breach, over half of Singaporeans remain optimistic about Smart Nation drive.

SUTD’s Head of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences Professor Lim Sun Sun explained that Singaporeans may not necessarily draw the connection between data privacy and Smart Nation initiatives. “Besides data security, people may associate Smart Nation with more innovative technologies such as autonomous vehicles, drones and smart lamp posts.”

The study found that trust in Smart Nation initiatives and awareness of the Singhealth breach varied by education levels. Professor Lim explained that such variances are typical and replicate those found in other countries. The more highly educated tend to be more familiar with technology and more aware of security risks and online scams.
