Dr. Melvin Zin is presently Senior Manager of 3M Electronics Markets Materials Division for 3M China Region, based in Shanghai. He was most recently Head of Corporate Research Laboratory, based in Singapore, for South East Asia Region. With a broad international experience, his expertise is in general management and R&D strategy. Having being based and worked in the U.S., Singapore, and China in a number of roles across 3M businesses, he has been leading and managing new product innovation, technology commercialization and leveraging emerging business opportunities in formulating longer-term strategic plan and execution. In his present capacity, he is responsible for key account interactions in electronics markets and for leadership to new product platforms build-up including product portfolio management and IP strategy.

He started his 3M career in 2007 (St. Paul., U.S.A.) as Senior Materials Scientist in new technology development and early stage new product development. He has taken on roles of increasing responsibilities, including leadership roles in global teams and regional technical service. In 2010, he was chosen to establish and spearhead 3M’s first Corporate Research Laboratory in South East Asia Region to support six different businesses. He was responsible for deploying a number of key Technology Platforms to 3M Manufacturing Hub in Singapore, including precision clean coating and micro-replication.

He holds Adjunct Assistant Professorship at the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Nanyang Technological University (Singapore). He serves as a reviewer for a number of journals, and has written or co-authored over 20 journal articles in the areas of nanotechnology, functional materials, and surface modification.
