dr Ong Eng Hwee

Eng Hwee is a technology leader with experience in research, foresight and innovation. He had worked with organisations in Telecommunications industry such as telco, mobile devices, radio & access networks, and standardisation.

 

He specializes in wireless networks, MAC protocols, and cross-layer design. His research interests include future radio access technology, heterogeneous network (HetNet), radio resource management, network selection, quality of service, coexistence, machine communications, and cognitive cooperation architecture for future wireless networks.

 

He received his B.E. (Hons. I) degree and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, both from The University of Newcastle, Australia. Upon earning his Ph.D., he was appointed as the Senior Researcher in Nokia Research Center Helsinki, Finland where he was actively involved in IEEE standards and radio access technology concept development involving future-ready WLAN, LTE and their coexistence. He had served as Nokia Delegate for IEEE P802.11 Task Group AC and Task Group AI, and he was ranked as Top 20 inventors of Nokia in 2011.

 

He then joined Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) where he focused on strategic planning for wireless infrastructure and led the development of a nationwide HetNet. He is currently the Head of Technology Planning at Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) where he leads the development of technology foresight and masterplan for the Infocomm and Media sector. He had served as Head of Secretariat for the Services and Digital Economy Technology Roadmap in 2018.

 

Dr Ong has (co)authored more than 30 publications in scientific journals, proceedings, book chapters, and standards submissions with over 950 citations. He also holds 40 patents including 13 patent families in the areas of wireless networking, mobile communications and telematics. He is a Senior Member of IEEE and IES.
