Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, learners can expect to:

  • Identify and apply leadership styles and roles of the Chief Sustainability Officer to drive sustainable transformation within an organisation
  • Design an organisation for sustainability by integrating sustainable practices across departments, operations, and supply chain
  • Develop stakeholder engagement methods and a sustainable culture to embed sustainability in the organisation’s values, mission, and decision-making processes

 

Day 1
  • Roles of the CSO
  • CSO leadership styles and versatility
  • Style and strategy differences across industry and function
  • Exercise: Profiling model CSOs in your organisation’s industry
  • Managing your sustainability team
  • Influencing other C-suite members
  • Driving the sustainability agenda across all levels of the organisation

 

Day 2
  • Designing the organisation for sustainability
  • Organisational structure and cross-functional collaboration
  • Reporting lines and decision rights
  • In-class Assignment 1: Identifying potential improvements in your organisation’s set-up
  • Purview of the sustainability team
  • Sustainability strategy integration
  • Budgeting procedures

 

Day 3
  • Stakeholder engagement methods
  • Ensuring inclusiveness in decision-making processes
  • Creating conducive internal communication channels
  • Exercise: Pre-empting stakeholder concerns in your organisation
  • Maintaining successful investor relations
  • Public relations and crisis management
  • Community outreach and engagement

 

Day 4
  • Developing a sustainable culture
  • Behavioural vs cultural change
  • Combining bottom-up and top-down approaches
  • In-class Assignment 2: Envisioning a successful culture of sustainability for your organisation
  • Culture champions and behavioural nudges
  • Incentive design and sustainability performance management
  • Team Project briefing and preliminary planning

 

Day 5
  • Team Project: Developing a roadmap for sustainable transformation

Subject Credits
