Foundation of Cybersecurity

Overview

Part of the ModularMaster in Cybersecurity programme

This course provides students with a basic appreciation and understanding of the core concepts of information security:

  1. Concepts for confidentiality, integrity and availability; information flow properties and access control
  2. Cryptographic primitives such as symmetric and asymmetric cryptography, cryptanalysis
  3. Core problems such as random number generation, entropy, and key distribution
  4. Common attacker models. Introduction to advanced concepts such as secure multiparty computations, electronic voting schemes and privacy enhancing technologies

This course can be taken as a module on its own or as part of the Graduate Certificate in Systems and Networking Security stack and participants will earn 12 subject credits which can also be used towards completing the ModularMaster in Cybersecurity.

Prerequisites

  • O-Level Mathematics
  • Generic Skills Competency (GSC) for Digital Literacy at Intermediate Level: Use available software features to create and edit documents, customise templates and reports and evaluate online information.
  • Programming knowledge in Python will be particularly useful
