Introduction to HR Analytics and Basic Statistical Analysis

Programme Outline

Learning Objectives
  1. Have a clear understanding of data science and its application
  2. Introduction to Analytics in general and HR Analytics
  3. Understand the difference between descriptive and predictive analytics
  4. Understand tools and techniques for building a HR Analytics function. This includes:
    • Knowing the right skillsets to start a HR Analytics function
    • Understanding the integration of the various functions to support HR Data Analytics
    • Understanding the systems and technology needed to drive the HR Analytics function
  5. Understand types of data sources and how to integrate HR with other business systems
  6. Secure knowledge about data management, protection and privacy
  7. Secure skills in Critical Issue Analysis to define key areas of measurement for HR
  8. Know how to select the right data and clean databases
  9. Introduction to basic statistics and techniques to perform simple data analysis for selected Human Resource questions. The techniques introduced will include:
    • Correlation analysis
    • Linear regression
    • Multiple linear regression
    • Scatterplots and Bubble Charts, Histograms, etc
    • ANOVAs
  10. Able to employ story-telling techniques and build dashboards to translate data into meaningful information for management decision making.

There will also be a demonstration on how to use Power BI to build dashboards.

Part 1 – Statistical Techniques You Will Learn
  • Basic Statistical Concepts

  • Scatterplots and Bubble Charts, Histograms, etc
Part 2 – HR Analytics in Action

Participants will take on practice sessions and learn how to apply analytics in their HR functions:

  • Using ANOVAs to track recruitment cycle time
  • Learning Analytics to measure training efficiency
  • Turnover Driver Analysis – Correlation Analysis to understand employee exits
  • Employee Benefit Analysis – Reviewing cost effectiveness through use of Linear Regression
Part 3 – Assessment

Test

At the end of the first half of the workshop, participants will be given a short written test of 2 questions to assess their understanding of basic HR analytics concepts.

 

Storytelling

Participants will be given a case study using simple statistical tools to develop a set of both descriptive and predictive analytics for a selected Human Resource program. They will then be asked to develop a presentation of the results using story-telling techniques taught in the class.
