Security Tools Lab 2

Overview

Part of the ModularMaster in Cybersecurity programme

This hands-on lab will introduce students to state-of-the-art commercial and open-source tools for a variety of security-related tasks such as assurance, reverse engineering, malware analysis, and forensics.

 

Examples include disassemblers, debuggers and de-compilers, black-box and white-box vulnerability testing tools, host and network forensics tools. These will be applied to realistic scenarios in enterprise and CPS settings and will be actively used in subsequent mandatory and elective modules.

Objectives
  • Cybersecurity Attack lab (Dirty COW attack, Armitage, Harvester and Social engineering toolkit)
  • Cybersecurity Defence lab (Network forensics, Nessus vulnerability analysis tool)
  • Cyber-Physical Systems lab (PLC programming, attack and defence of PLC using python script)
  • Systems and cybercrime lab (System architecture, Cybercrime, international cybercrime law, policies)

Learners are not required to complete Security Tools Lab 1 before taking up this module.

This course can be taken as a module on its own or as part of the Graduate Certificate in Cybersecurity Tools and Forensics stack and participants will earn 12 subject credits which can also be used towards completing the ModularMaster in Cybersecurity.

Prerequisites

  • ‘O’ Level Mathematics;
  • Generic Skills Competency (GSC) for Digital Literacy at Intermediate Level: Use available software features to create and edit documents, customise templates and reports and evaluate online information.
  • Programming knowledge in Python will be particularly useful
