ASSET (Automated Systems SEcuriTy) Research Group, led by Sudipta Chattopadhyay, Assistant Professor, has discovered SweynTooth (https://asset-group.github.io/disclosures/sweyntooth/), a family of 12 new Bluetooth implementation vulnerabilities (more under non-disclosure) affecting seven major system-on-chip (SoC) vendors and potentially affecting over 480 IoT products in smart home, logistics, medical, wearables and sensing. The list of vulnerabilities may grow as more SoCs are tested. More details about the vulnerabilities and their exploitation to launch attacks on IoTs could be found in the aforementioned disclosure website. The discovery has already been covered by many International media, including The Hackernews, nakedSecurity, Register (UK), SecurityWeek, and ZDNet.
