Can a work-from-home city still be an innovative city?

The past year’s pandemic has prompted us to re-imagine our homes as our primary places of work (and learning, and much more). These changes have had rapid impacts on our personal lives and our use of digital technologies, but we are only beginning to understand how they may change the design of urban housing and town planning in the future.

To open our discussion, we will feature a presentation by distinguished guest Dr Cheong Koon Hean, Chairman, Centre for Liveable Cities, on recent developments in town planning and urban housing in Singapore.

We will follow up with a panel discussion on the past year’s effects on urban housing and residential districts, covering topics of mobility and resilience as we explore the question: can a work-from-home city still be an innovative city?

This discussion is part of SUTD Architecture and Sustainable Design’s inform/reform publication series and is organized in coordination with the launch of issue 02 Housing: Next.

Moderator:
Peter Ortner, Assistant Professor, Architecture and Sustainable Design, Singapore University of Technology and Design.

Featured Speaker:
Cheong Koon Hean, Chairman of the Centre for Liveable Cities (MND) and the incoming chairman of SUTD’s Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities.

The webinar was held as part of the 2021 Asia Pacific Architecture Festival, an initiative of Architecture Media and State Library of Queensland.
