Dr. Jin Murakami will lead a $386,800 Ministry of Education (MOE) Academic Research Fund Tier 2 study, titled “Does Green Urbanism Work Together with TOD?: A Spatial Analysis of Energy Consumption, Transit Ridership, and Price Appreciation.” This research aims to provide scientific evidence on both the positive and negative effects of combining green urbanism solutions (e.g., green building technologies and EV sharing systems) with Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) principles (e.g., high-density, mixed-use, and pedestrian-friendly built environment design features) by conducting a set of spatial data analyses in Singapore as one of the global best TOD city cases. Findings on three performance indicators (building energy consumption, train passenger volume, and property sales transaction) are expected not only to make academic contributions to urban planning theories and design concepts but also to help Asian cities introduce innovative green technology solutions, promote clean public transport modes, and attract private real estate investments for low-carbon urban development and management.
