Programme Outline
Learning Objectives
- Recognise that although a serious game is designed for the purpose of enhancing user engagement and immersive experience, it requires an instructional design approach with a specific learning objective
- Understand serious game design fundamentals, game modification and playtesting
- Appreciate that analysing a game’s formal conceptual design, its elements, and their relation to each other based on the games purpose is a constructive first step in assessing serious games
- Participants will be introduced to tools for Serious Games Design Assessment (SGDA) Framework and will learn how to use it
- Be equipped with basic instructional design knowledge and practice how to meaningfully design and evaluate a serious game
Day 1
- Introduction and definition of serious games
- Game design fundamentals, modification, and playtesting
- Introduction of game evaluation and tools for serious game design validation framework (Octalysis model), case studies’ examples
- Introduction to Day 2 serious game evaluation based on participants’ industry
Day 2
- Game evaluation and tools for serious game design validation framework (SG DiVa model), case studies’ examples
- Assessment of participants’ industry with relation to serious game, critique of the serious game assessment framework used and conclusion
