Academic Pathways

To meet the requirements of the programme, students have to complete various compulsory modules, workshops and review sessions. Students may refer to the suggested curriculum paths as mapped out below, as a reference guide for planning and monitoring purposes.


Mentorship and Enrichment Activities per Term

INDEPENDENT ACTIVITIES PERIOD (IAP)
  • Participate in at least 1 healthcare focused IAP
  • Participate in at least 2 UROP projects

During the course of the undergraduate programme, students will encounter three (3) times of IAP, which takes place in January of each year. It is compulsory to participate in one healthcare focused IAP in the first year; and students are also strongly encouraged to further participate in at least one (1) healthcare focused IAP each in the subsequent two (2) years.

VACATION BREAK PERIOD
  • Internship in a healthcare setting
  • Overseas exchange
  • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT)

The MCAT will have to be completed in Term 6.

TERM 1
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 1 (introduction)
  • Identify volunteer, research and leadership opportunities related to medicine
TERM 2
  • ½ Day Workshop: “Introduction to SingHealth Duke-NUS ACP"
  • Duke-NUS community projects
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 2 (semester review)
TERM 3 / FALL TERM
  • ½ Day Workshop: “Introduction to SingHealth Duke-NUS ACP"
  • 2-day Duke-NUS Alumni Clinical Observership (DACO)
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 3 (semester review)
TERM 4
  • ½ Day Workshop: “Introduction to SingHealth Duke-NUS ACP"
  • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) Preparation
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 4 (semester review)
  • Meet-the-Clinician Mentor Session 1 (semester review)
TERM 5
  • ½ Day Workshop: “Introduction to SingHealth Duke-NUS ACP"
  • Identify and pursue leadership opportunities within the pre-health organisations
  • Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) Preparation
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 5 (semester review)
  • Meet-the-Clinician Mentor Session 2 (semester review)
TERM 6
  • ½ Day Workshop: “Introduction to SingHealth Duke-NUS ACP"
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 6 (semester review and discussion on MD application)
  • Meet-the-Clinician Mentor Session 3 (semester review and discussion on MD application)
  • Preparation for MD Application
  • Submit MD application* by 1 September
  • Submit academic transcript for Term 6
  • Submit financial aid application

* Completing the MD application is a clerical necessity and does not imply that the students are re-applying to medical school

TERM 7
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 7 (semester review)
  • Meet-the-Clinician Mentor Session 4 (semester review)
TERM 8
  • Meet-the-SUTD Technology Mentor Session 8 (semester review)
  • Meet-the-Clinician Mentor Session 5 (semester review)
  • Complete undergraduate requirements and graduate by July
  • Submit final transcript to Duke-NUS upon matriculation (results from Term 1 – Term 8)


Things to Note

All students in the special track are required to:

  • participate in at least 1 healthcare focused IAP
  • participate in at least 2 UROP projects
  • intern in one of the following healthcare organizations
    • Public and Private Hospitals
    • Community Hospitals
    • Polyclinics
    • Medical Device Companies
  • take and pass the MCAT before Term 6
  • take a healthcare focused Capstone project in their final year with SUTD

All Internship applications must be submitted to committee for approval.
