Lianhe Zaobao, 27 Mar 2019, SUTD graduates see increase in employment rate and starting salaries for four consecutive years (translation)

The employment rate for new graduates from the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) has increased for the fourth consecutive year. 94% of last year’s graduates found jobs within half a year, which is 2.6 percentage points higher than the previous year. The percentage of graduates who found full-time permanent jobs remained at 86%, and the median starting salary increased by $150 to $3,850.

Among them, the Information Systems Technology and Design (ISTD) graduates earned the highest monthly salary of $4,400.

85% of graduates participated in survey
Since starting school in 2012, SUTD has already graduated four batches of students. Of the 334 students who graduated last year, 285 of them (around 85%) participated in the survey.
The students graduated from the Engineering Systems and Design (ESD), Engineering Product Development and ISTD pillars.

SUTD announced the results from the joint graduate employment survey yesterday, which was carried out in February this year. Key sectors that students were hired in include Information & Communication, Financial & Insurance, and Scientific Research & Development.

Graduates from the Architecture and Sustainable Design pillar must still complete their practical training and thus were not included in this year’s survey.

The school also conducted a follow-up employment survey for the first batch of Architecture and Sustainable Design students who graduated in 2015. The survey showed that about 95% of them found full-time jobs after their practical training; with a median gross monthly starting salary of $4,000.

Local university graduates' overall employment rate rises
Last month, the National University of Singapore, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore Management University and Singapore University of Social Sciences released their joint graduate employment survey results, which revealed that the employment rate for their graduates was better than the previous year.

According to the joint survey, the overall employment rate for graduates from the four autonomous universities increased to 90.2% last year, compared to 88.9% in the previous year. Full-time employment rate also rose from 78.4% to 81.2%. The median gross monthly starting salary also rose by $100 to $3,500.

Due to differences in academic calendars, SUTD and the Singapore Institute of Technology poll their graduates separately.

SUTD ESD graduate, Hilda Thian (23 years old), had already received a job offer even before she graduated. Currently, she is with Changi Airport Group, doing operations management work.
