Master of Science in Technology and Design (Human-Centred Design)

Design for the people, design for a better world

The Master of Science in Technology and Design (Human-Centred Design) programme will shape students into human experts in the world of technology, emphasising user-centricity at every turn.

In an age where technology touches every aspect of our lives, it is paramount that we prioritise the user’s experience, to recognise that technology exists to serve people. When technology is designed with the user’s needs, behaviours and preferences in mind, it has the potential to greatly enhance the way individuals interact with and benefit from the digital world.

By understanding how technologies interact with human behaviour and diverse cultures, graduates of the programme will gain skills to make design more inclusive, equitable, and socially responsible, expanding the reach of your design impact and market potential.

Programme Structure

As the only university in Singapore that integrates Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) into an engineering and design education, coupled with a robust core of design modules, SUTD is the ideal place to pursue a postgraduate degree in human-centred design. Tapping on this unique pedagogy, this one-year full-time programme is suitable for individuals who wish to upgrade their skillset and integrate state-of-the-art design science with human-centricity.

If you are a graduate who is seeking ways to distinguish yourself from your peers, this postgraduate programme is the answer for a global technology industry with a growing demand for human-centred and user-experience designers or professionals.

Message from the Academic Programme Director

We are thrilled to present our master’s degree programme in Human-Centred Design - an innovative pathway to mastering the convergence between technologies and humanity. As our everyday life is transformed by technology, demand grows for insights into the interface between technologies and human culture, society, and behaviour. Human-centred design is a rapidly growing professional field. The increasing prevalence of e-commerce and online businesses further amplifies the demand for skilled user interface (UI)/user experience (UX) designers globally.

The MTD (Human-Centred Design) programme empowers students to shape technological experiences that are not only cutting-edge, but also deeply intuitive and user-centric. Drawing on the unique expertise of SUTD’s Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) cluster and the broader SUTD design thinking teaching methodology, you will have meaningful experiential learning in human-centred research methods, design thinking, business management acumen, and digital skills.

Our mission is to produce graduates who will flourish as human experts in the technology world.
