Established collaboratively between the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and SUTD in October 2012 to undertake cutting-edge research and development for defence and security application, TL@SUTD is part of the broader TL network established in partnership with the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS). To further strengthen this network and foster closer collaboration on multi-disciplinary research and professional exchanges amongst researchers, a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) was signed between the three TLs - TL@SUTD, TL@NTU, and TL@NUS. (L-R) Mr Cheong Chee Hoo, Chairman of TL Management Board and CEO DSO National Laboratories; Mr Khoo Boo Cheong, Director of TL@NUS; Professor Chong Tow Chong, Director of TL@SUTD and SUTD President; Associate Professor Edwin Teo, Director of TL@NTU; Mr Chan Heng Kee, Permanent Secretary (Defence). Commending the outstanding achievements of TL@SUTD, Mr Chan said, “Despite being the youngest kid on the block at only 10 years old, TL@SUTD too has made notable contributions. TL@SUTD has established world class research capability in reconfigurable robotics and nature inspired UAVs. It has also seeded the Centre for Research in Cyber Security, also known as iTrust, which is gaining international recognition for its work in cyber-physical security and making an impact at our national level.” TL@SUTD presented a tour and showcase of its research facilities and capabilities. Technical Seminar The 10th anniversary celebrations concluded with an afternoon of technical seminar, where Professor Kim Sangbae, Director of the Biomimetic Robotics Laboratory at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) was invited to give the keynote presentation and plenary talk. TL@SUTD research team members, Associate Professor Soh Gim Song, Shane Kyi Hla Win, Billy Lau Pik Lik and Keshigeyan Chandrasegaran, showcased their work which centred around TL@SUTD’s core research focus in Robotics Intelligence and Sensors.
