The Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) will create customised entrepreneurial courses for small and medium-sized enterprises for the Teochew Federation (Singapore), to enhance the skills that leaders and managers need to master in a rapidly changing business environment. This is also the first local tertiary institution to create a customised course for clan associations, with support from Singapore Kityang Huay Kwan.

The Teochew Federation, SUTD and Kityang Huay Kwan completed the signing ceremony of the joint course memorandum at the Teochew Federation Lunar New Year Luncheon on Tuesday (January 24), with guest of honour, Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for Economic Policies, Mr Heng Swee Keat as the witness.

In his speech, Mr Heng said that this was a good project and hoped that outstanding entrepreneurs could benefit from it.

The "S.M.A.R.T" Entrepreneurship Course has six modules, emphasising Scale, Mastery, Agility, Resilience and Transformation. The purpose of the course is to apply what was learned. At the end of each module, which comprise a five-day physical programme, the students must prepare a report to share how they transformed what they learnt in class into their own corporate strategy, and relevant industry experts, as well as Enterprise Singapore, will provide feedback and assist in implementation.

Heavyweight guest speakers include Ang Kiam Meng, Group CEO of Jumbo Group, Saw Ken Wye, CEO of CrimsonLogic and Tan Yinglan, Founding Managing Partner at Insignia Venture. Lecturers include Andrew Chin, Instructor at SUTD Academy, and Dr Lim Boh Soon, an expert in private equity and venture capital.

The course is open to Teochew businessmen for registration first and is expected to start in March this year with a class of 20 students. Eligible course participants can receive up to 90% subsidy from SkillsFuture.
