Through the generous support of Mr Kuok Khoon Hong, this Scholarship is available to outstanding undergraduates pursuing their studies at SUTD.

ELIGIBILITY

The Scholarship is open to Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents who

  • are enrolled in their first year of study in any undergraduate degree programme at SUTD;

  • have outstanding Singapore-Cambridge GCE 'A' level, Local Polytechnic Diploma, NUS High School Diploma, IB Diploma or Year 12 equivalent qualifications;

  • possess leadership potential, creative thinking, passion, collaborative outlook, integrity and character;

  • are active in co-curricular activities;

  • have good records of service and contribution to the university and/or to the community at large;

  • believe in giving back to society

Special consideration will be given for candidates with demonstrated financial need (PCI less than S$1,500 p.m).

BENEFITS OF AWARD

  • The Scholarship is valued at S$15,000 per annum for Singapore Citizens, tenable for the normal duration (up to four years) of the respective degree programmes at SUTD, subject to good academic standing and other terms.  The quantum will be used towards the recipient’s annual subsidised tuition fees and other study related expenses.
  • For Singapore Permanent Residents, the Scholarship will be used towards the annual subsidised tuition fees (after Tuition Grant) for the normal duration (up to four years) of the respective degree programmes at SUTD, subject to good academic standing and other terms.  
  • Successful recipients may be granted internship and/or career opportunities with the donor’s designated companies.

  • The Scholarship also covers hostel fees for the entire duration of the Freshmore year, i.e. 3 terms (valid only for scholarships awarded to Singaporeans from 2016 onwards)

No bond is required under the terms of this Scholarship. The recipient must take up the Tuition Grant Scheme (TGS) from the Singapore Government to enjoy subsidised fees. Under the TGS, non-Singaporeans will be obligated to work in Singapore for a minimum period of three years upon graduation.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

The recipient must:

  • The recipient is required to achieve and maintain good academic standing. Academic performance will be reviewed every term. 

  • Recipients must uphold the donor’s values of paying-it-forward by contributing back a pledged sum equal one-fifth of the scholarship sum received:

    • Pledged contributions will commence one year upon graduation, payable in full or over a maximum period of 3 years

    • The returned sums will be used towards the Student Welfare Fund (endowment) to help future generations of SUTD students

  • Recipients are required to complete at least 20 hours of service to the university. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.

  • Recipients may not, without the approval of the University, hold concurrently any other scholarships or grants.

  • The scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the University, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.

  • If the recipient decides to terminate the scholarship prematurely, SUTD reserves the right to impose a repayment on a case-by-case basis.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

  • Application for the scholarship is made at the same time as application for admission to SUTD.

  • Shortlisted applicants will be notified in due course.

  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.

  • SUTD reserves the right not to award any scholarship if there are no candidates of sufficient merit. The decision of the selection committee is final. Enquiries or disputes surrounding its decisions will not be entertained.
