The University Engineering Scholarship (UES), which is a merit-based scholarship, was implemented to signal the importance of Engineering. It is open to polytechnic diploma holders from Singapore to pursue full-time Engineering or Technology related undergraduate programs at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) or Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).


The Scholarship is open to Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents who

  • are enrolled in their first year of study in any undergraduate degree programme 
  • possess outstanding Local Polytechnic Diplomas (preferably Diploma with Merit) in Engineering or Technology courses

Benefits of the awards

Recipients will receive:

  • Tuition fees directly payable by students (after Tuition Grant subsidy)
  • Living allowance of S$5,800 per academic year.
  • Computer allowance of S$2,000 (one-off).

Terms & Conditions

  • UES covers the normal duration of the undergraduate studies on the condition that the recipient maintains a good academic performance and satisfactory conduct.
  • Recipients will be required to sign a scholarship agreement with MOE. Upon graduation, the recipients will have to serve a 4-year bond working in the Engineering-related field in Singapore.
  • Recipients must commence their study in any full-time undergraduate program at SUTD in the same academic year of application.
  • Recipients may not concurrently hold any other scholarship, fellowship, grant, award, bursaries or loans that cover the same cost items as provided by the UES.
  • Recipients are required to achieve a pass in Term 1 and to maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.5 over 5.0 from Term 2 onwards.  The academic performance will be reviewed every term.
  • Recipients are required to complete at least 20 hours of service to the university. They may take on the role of student ambassador, or any other similar role, representing SUTD to give publicity talks, to receive guests, etc., as and when called upon to do so.
  • The Scholarship may be withdrawn at any time if, in the opinion of the University, the recipient’s academic progress or conduct is deemed unsatisfactory.
  • In the event that the recipient terminates the scholarship prematurely (due to voluntary withdrawal from the SUTD or due to disciplinary reasons), the recipient will be liable to pay liquidated damages to MOE (i.e. equivalent to the tuition grant subsidy amount received by the recipients from the commencement of the scholarship till its termination plus 10% compounded interest per annum.

  • Any application submitted without the complete required documents by 27 May 2016 will be disqualified.
  • There will not be any extension of the closing date. Late applications will not be accepted.
  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis of competition among eligible applicants.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be notified for an interview by end June.
  • Selection interviews will be held in July.
