[Competition] Ergonomic Design Challenge – Design your own smart phone holder using Digital and Additive Manufacturing (29 May)

On-Campus

Ergonomic Design Challenge – Design your own smart phone holder using Digital and Additive Manufacturing
29 May 2024, Wednesday, 9AM to 4PM

This workshop is conducted by the Digital Manufacturing and Design Centre (DManD), in collaboration with the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Cluster (NAMIC).

Smart phones are part and parcel of our daily lives, giving us access to information, convenience, and entertainment. However, prolonged usage can be harmful to our health, one of which being musculoskeletal strain. In this challenge, participants will be designing an add-on to their smart phone that will improve the ergonomics of their devices. Each participant will be given plasticine to create a prototype. The prototypes are then 3D surfaced scanned to create a digitized model. Selected prototypes will be 3D-printed and stand a chance to win the challenge!

Finalists will be returning for Day 2 of showcase + award ceremony, on 7 June 2024, Friday, 1PM - 3.30PM.

Participants are required to bring their own smartphone for the challenge. More details will be provided in the confirmation email upon registration.

Open to all Secondary / Polytechnic / Junior College / IB students.

[Workshop] Resinating with Makerspace (Resin Making) (31 May or 6 June)

On-Campus

Resinating with Makerspace (Resin Making)
31 May 2024, Friday or 6 June 2024, Thursday, 2PM - 5PM

Conducted by SUTD Makerspace, this workshop allows participants to create and decorate resin craft of their choice. The things you can create are endless! Embark on your resin crafting journey with our begineer workshop experience.

More details will be provided in the confirmation email upon registration.

Open to all Secondary / Polytechnic / Junior College / IB students.

[Workshop] Line Tracing Robot (3 & 4 June)

On-Campus

Line Tracing Robot
3 and 4 June 2024, Monday and Tuesday, 10AM to 4PM

Conducted by the SUTD Organisation of Autonomous Robotics (SOAR), this line tracing challenge gets you to work in teams of 4 to learn and apply programming and problem-solving skills using a standard base robot, equipped with light sensors for line tracing. You will have to code and tune your line tracing algorithm on the Arduino robot, while those seeking a challenge can get to clear additional obstacles along the track. The team with the fastest clear time wins!

Learning Objectives

  • To understand the basic Arduino IDE interface
  • To gain knowledge of basic C language, robotics on IR sensors and PID

Programme Outline

Day 1

  • Basic C programming language
  • Hardware Arduino IDE
  • Line tracing logic

Day 2

  • Advanced C knowledge
  • PID theory
  • Competition

Participants are required to bring their own laptop and charger for the workshop. Please download Arduino IDE prior to the workshop. More details will be provided in the confirmation email upon registration.

Open to all Secondary / Polytechnic / Junior College students.

[Workshop] The Hospital Patient Flow Workshop (5 June)

On-Campus

The Hospital Patient Flow Workshop
5 June 2024, Wednesday, 3PM - 5PM

Conducted by Engineering Systems and Design (ESD), The Hospital Patient Flow Game is a flow analysis game in which participants must pick up patients and move them through a hospital from one treatment area to the next until they are finally discharged. Whoever moves the required number of patients through the hospital fastest wins. It sounds simple but it is a fast-paced game and there are tricks to saving time.  But it is also an educational game: Participants will learn a fundamental concept of analysing flow in engineering systems: the so-called “Little’s Law.”  So come take a first step into engineering systems analysis and have fun doing it.

More details will be provided in the confirmation email upon registration.

Open to all Polytechnic / Junior College / IB students.
