SmartGrid is a new technology that understands the preferences of its user, bringing about energy and cost savings in accordance with the user’s comfort level of choice. For instance, before knocking off from work, a user is able to remotely switch on and set the temperature of his air-conditioner using his smartphone, allowing him to return to a cool and comfortable home without having to leave the air-conditioner running continuously while he is out. This green technology is also applicable to shared spaces such as classrooms and meeting rooms. Currently, SmartGrid is being tested in SUTD’s student dormitories, serviced apartments and offices.
