At SUTD, students not only have Wednesdays off, but Fridays too – a practice it has had since its inception. Mr Jonathan Kua, SUTD's chief of staff, student affairs, said "It not only provides opportunities for personal growth, but also serves to provide a balance to a student’s week – strengthening physical health and supporting mental wellness."

A new course starting from April 2025 aims to help workers with no technology background build new careers in cyber security. The Design x AI x Tech (Cybersecurity) certification programme aims to train 200,000 PMETs.

This is among early proposed plans for the surface streets along the 21.5km North-South Corridor (NSC). Research Assistant Professor Samuel Chng, head of the Urban Psychology Lab from the LKYCIC at SUTD, said the participatory design process will lead to the creation of spaces that are loved and used often by people over time.

Hate speech detection models are computational systems that can identify and classify online comments as hate speech. "These models are crucial in moderating online content and mitigating the spread of harmful speech, particularly on social media," said Assistant Professor Roy Lee.

The Eco-City Research and Innovation Centre established by SUTD in the Sino-Singapore Tianjin Eco-City recently awarded its first scholarship. The scholarship recipient will begin a four-year undergraduate programme at SUTD and is expected to return to the Eco-City to work or start a business after graduation.

Since its launch in 2022, Career Connect has supported more than 200 teenage girls from underserved communities. The programme, a partnership between leading global financial institution J.P. Morgan and SUTD, aims to inspire the next generation of women to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

"Bioinspired soft robotics seeks to develop technologies that draw inspiration from nature and leverage advanced materials and fabrication processes," said Dr Pablo Valdivia y Alvarado, Associate Professor at SUTD.

A leading figure in robotics, Dr Malika Meghjani emphasises collaboration between humans and robots to shape a more efficient and impactful future for society.

A*STAR is advancing EV battery technology through the Singapore Battery Pack Programme, collaborating with NTU, NUS, and SUTD. Their efforts include developing an immersion cooling system for thermal management and a cognitive digital twin for real-time performance monitoring.
