Strategic Design, AI and Technology Integration for Executives

2-day Course

This course is designed for senior executives, managers and professionals to better understand and effectively apply design, AI and technology to real-world challenges.

Participants will engage in hands-on session to create custom GPT as a window to understand the integration of design, AI and technology. The course covers strategic implications of AI in various business contexts, future-of-work strategies, job redesign for mastery and meaning in the workforce, and the ethical considerations of AI. Interactive lab tours will provide insights into AI applications across different arenas. 

Through guided sessions and practical exercises, participants will gain the skills needed to leverage AI-driven innovations and design strategies to drive meaningful transformation in their organisations.

  • AI Trust, Ethics and Governance: Examine the inherent risks and quality control issues related to AI deployment, focusing on reliability, fairness, and trustworthiness of AI data.
Day 1
  • Introduction and overview of the course objectives and outcomes
  • Understanding the Synergy between Design, AI and Technology: Introducing custom GPTs: Why they are a window into design, AI and technology, and the future of AI
  • Hands-on workshop: Design and build your own custom GPTs to improve performance at work
  • Strategic implications of AI in Your Organisation
  • Job Redesign Strategies for Future of Work: Synthesis - Insights from research and practice on the future of work in the age of AI
  • Strategies: Developing "simple rules" for navigating an exponential, unexpected, and human-centered future
  • Systems: Combining strategies to create new systems for job redesign focused on mastery and meaning in the workforce
  • Actionable insights: Discussion on actionable steps for immediate implementation within organisations (guided discussions)
Day 2
  • Discovering New Value Creations with Design, AI and Technology: Leverage design innovation to create new value with AI
  • Detailed exploration of AI-related projects and hands-on experience with AI applications in different arenas, such as text, music and speech
  • Generative AI for Design and its strategic impact on organisations
  • Guided AI research lab tour (SUTD AI Mega Centre)
  • Recap of key learnings: Action planning and guided discussions on next steps for applying course insights in participants' organisations

SUTD

POON King Wang is the Chief Strategy Officer at SUTD, and concurrently the Director of the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities at SUTD, where he also heads the Smart Cities Lab and the Future Digital Economies and Digital Societies initiative. 

King Wang is on the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung’s Strong Cities 2030 Network, the Future of Work working group of the Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence, and the SkillsFuture Research Advisory Panel . He was also on two national taskforces on the future of adult learning, and on future services in the digital economy.

King Wang’s team's Future of Work research is recognised in Singapore’s National AI Strategy for helping to build a trusted and progressive environment for AI that balances citizens' interests with corporate innovation. His team also collaborated with the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s Personal Data Protection Commission (under the guidance of the Advisory Council of the Ethical Use of AI and Data) to launch A Guide to Job Redesign in the Age of AI, Singapore’s first industry-agnostic guide to help companies manage AI's impact on employees. 

Recently, King Wang received the Public Administration Medal (Silver) in 2021 for his contributions.

 

Edwin Koh
Senior Lecturer, Associate Programme Head (DAI), Capstone Programme Director
SUTD

Edwin is Associate Head of Programme (Design and Artificial Intelligence) and Capstone Programme Director at SUTD. He serves on the Grand Challenges Scholar Program (GCSP) New Programs Committee, founded by the United States National Academy of Engineering (NAE), and is the founding chair of the International Conference on Advanced Design Research and Education. Edwin has held full-time and visiting positions at the National University of Singapore, New York University, and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR). His research focuses on the design of engineering products and appears in journals such as Research in Engineering Design, Journal of Engineering Design, and Design Studies.
 
Edwin received his B.Eng. in Mechanical Engineering and S.M. in Manufacturing from the Nanyang Technological University. He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as part of his master’s studies and holds a Ph.D. in Engineering Design from the University of Cambridge.
